Introduction to My Wheelchair Series
This marks the start of my website’s wheelchair review series. I have been fortunate to use power wheelchairs for an extraordinarily long time. Beginning as a small child in 1971, the thrill of mobility was beyond compare—before that, my movement was quite limited. Manual wheelchairs were not an option for long distances, so power wheelchairs introduced me to a new world of freedom and independence.
The reviews that follow cover all the wheelchairs I can readily remember, including my current chair. Wheelchair design has evolved remarkably since the early 1970s through the 1980s, 1990s, and into the 2000s. This evolution will be chronicled in the articles linked on separate pages.
My aim in sharing these reflections is simple: to help people. Whether you’re exploring options for yourself, supporting someone else, or just curious about how wheelchair technology has changed over time, I hope my experiences offer insight, reassurance, and inspiration.
Enjoy.
